Eating Pretty: Omega’s and Magnesium

Your skin reflects the nutrition we put inside our bodies it isn’t just all hormones and skin care.  We may not eat very well or even think that what we eat can affect our skin.

I heard about this book Eat Pretty, Nutrition for Beauty Inside and Out, by Joleen Hart.  It had such great views from folks reading it, that I made the leap and purchased it.  I read it from cover to cover, with ease!  If you are wondering how to boost your nutrition for beauty to get the most out of what you put into your body, I would highly suggest this book.

It got me to thinking, you know I have problematic skin but you don’t know much about me and what I do to keep it “calm”, yes I use calm because my skin can go bipolar like no other.  There are a few things I do to help achieve my best skin along with using Indie Goat.  Below you will find a few things I do.

Omega 3’s:

I am a true believer in real fats! You will see that thru our skin care at Indie Goat.  However, I take this also to a new level in my personal life. I supplement my body with Omega 3-DHA, because our bodies don’t naturally produce this, so we lack the proper intake needed.

My family doesn’t age very well, and I want to help lessen my wrinkles, blemishes, so I will take all the omegas I can get! Ha.

So what foods can you eat?

  • Chia Seeds
  • Flax Seed
  • Hemp Seed
  • Walnuts
  • Salmon
  • Pineapple

What Skin Care can you use?

Facial Oils + Body Oil as these are filled with omega 3’s to feed your skin from the outside it.

Magnesium:

Did you know that 80% of the population is deficient! Yes, you could be one of those who is affected by this.  Magnesium is responsible for 300 biochemical reactions in our body, astounding when you think about it.

The day to day stresses that my body deals with daily isn’t going away, let alone easy on my body.  Between homeschooling the kids, taking care of the farm and Indie Goat, which equals late nights my body reacts to the stress. However, learning to manage it has been key to my health and my skin.

“This state of chronic stress leads to a build of cortisol, causing the skin to get clogged with a build-up of excreted oil also known as sebum.”

By increasing my intake of magnesium by supplement or eating more of the foods below, my body can handle my stressful situations better, plus can help with blemish spells.

So what foods can you eat, you ask?

  • Raw Goat Milk
  • Black beans
  • Cashews
  • Oatmeal
  • Green Leafy Veggies
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Quinoa

What skin care can I use?

Screaming, spirulina! So, our No 1 Purifying Clay Mask will help feed your skin. Along with our goat milk beauty bars.

Till next time, Heather

Inspiring Quotes to Lift Your Mood

November 12, 2018

As long as I can remember, I’ve saved quotes that have given me the feels. Throughout my life, at work or at home, you will find my space adorned with words of encouragement.  For whatever reason, the written word moves me in a way that little else does. Which is also part of the reason I’m one of the remaining diehards who relies on a paper planner and refuses to give it up.

My Recent Battle with Acne and What I Did
My Recent Battle with Acne and What I Did

November 05, 2018

I recently went through a personal health issue that threw my hormones all out of whack.  What happened inside of my body was out of my control, and my skin on the outside showed it.  All I wanted to do was to move past the upheaval that had taken over my life, but every time I looked in the mirror I was reminded.  Every glimpse of cystic acne lining my neck, the irritating feeling of my bra rubbing the pimples on my back and chest, the dry spots that flaked on my temples…
